The
law allows you to appeal certain collection actions. These include: the
filing of tax liens, a levy or notice of
levy, or a seizure or threatened seizure. If one of these actions has occurred
or is threatened to occur, first ask to speak to the group manager or supervisor
of the employee who has taken or threatened to take one of these actions.
Explain to the supervisor why you feel the action is unwarranted or what
hardship it might create. At this point, they may ask for some additional
information -- provide it if it is reasonable but make sure you explain that
time is of the essence.
If the supervisor will not grant you relief, tell them you wish to appeal the action. You can submit Form 9423 to the supervisor or you can request the appeal by phone. We recommend both! This process should take no more than 3 days. We have found it to be much faster than filing a 911. Contact us today for assistance.
