Teaching a horse to fly

Once upon a time there was a man about to be beheaded by the King for crimes against the kingdom. Right before the axe was about to fall, the man says to the king, “stop – if you spare my life and give me a year, I will teach your horse to fly”. The king ponders for a moment and asks, “How can you teach my horse to fly? Everyone knows horses can’t fly”. The man says, “your highness, what do you have to lose? At the end of the year you can either kill me or you will have a flying horse.” The king, although skeptical, accepts. 

Later a friend of the man asks, “Why on earth did you make a crazy promise like that. You know you can’t teach the horse to fly”. The man responds, “Well, a lot of things can happen in a year:

    - The king could die

    - The horse could die, or

    - I  could die

    - And by golly, I might just teach that horse to fly!” 

Sometimes our job is just to give you the time to teach that horse to fly!
