If you do not file a tax return, the IRS can file a return for you. These returns are referred to as Substitutes for Return or, "SFR" for short. If the IRS has done one or more SFR for you and is now trying to collect an amount you do not think you owe, you are entitled to prepare the correct returns and have them considered in place of the SFR. These are called SFR protest returns.

You may be able to handle an SFR yourself but we do not recommend it. SFR protest returns require special handling. We can get all the income information from the IRS and prepare the returns quickly. Furthermore, often in these situations, your records may not be in very good shape and it may be necessary to estimate expenses. We are very experienced in helping taxpayers do this.

If there is still a balance due after these returns are filed and you are not in a position to pay it, we can negotiate a payment plan you can live with or, if you are not in a position to make any payments, we can get the account put in a hardship status for you so you will not be expected to make any payments until and unless you are able. If you qualify, we may also be able to negotiate a settlement for less than you owe - often times for a fraction of the original liability.
